Install the companion app on your phone

The companion app is focused on quick lookups and on-the-go work.

Tree and Family app is a Progressive Web App (PWA). That means you can install it directly from your browser, without going through the App Store or Google Play. Once installed, it behaves like a normal app with its own icon, full-screen view, and quick access to your trees.

Follow the instructions below based on the type of phone you’re using.

Install on Android (Chrome)

  1. Open Chrome on your Android device.
  2. Navigate to the Tree&Family app URL:
    https://treeandfamily.com/app/
  3. After a moment, you’ll usually see a banner or prompt that says “Install app” or “Add Tree&Family to Home screen”. Tap that prompt and confirm.
  4. If you don’t see a prompt, tap the ⋮ menu (three dots) in the top-right corner of Chrome, then choose:
    • Install app… (or)
    • Add to Home screen
    and confirm when asked.
  5. An icon named Tree&Family will appear on your Home screen or in your app drawer. Tap it to launch the app in a full-screen view.

Install on iPhone or iPad (Safari)

On Apple devices, installation is done through Safari. Other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, etc.) can open the site, but only Safari can add it to your Home Screen as a standalone app.

  1. Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Navigate to the Tree&Family app URL:
    https://treeandfamily.com/app/
  3. Wait for the page to finish loading, then tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
  5. On the next screen, you can edit the name if you’d like, but Tree&Family is recommended. Tap Add.
  6. You’ll now see a Tree&Family icon on your Home Screen. Launching it will open the app in full-screen mode, separate from Safari.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • Make sure you’re using the latest version of your browser (Chrome on Android, Safari on iOS) for the best PWA support.
  • If you don’t see an install or Add to Home Screen option: try refreshing the page, or closing and reopening the browser.
  • If you ever want to remove the app, delete it like any other app: press and hold the icon on your Home screen, then choose Remove app / Uninstall.
